One of the largest cardiovascular and thoracic specialty groups worldwide, the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland has been named the number one heart program in America by U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Survey every year since 1995. The program has also received accolades from the American Heart Association, and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.  It has gotten nods for patient survival rates, advanced technology, and patient services.

The busy Beaumont Heart and Vascular Center performs almost a half million procedures a year.  Its program has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the ECRI Institute, and Blue Cross Blue Shield.  Health Imaging & IT has also cited the hospital’s innovative use of a two-way communication system for telemetry monitoring—a continuous electrocardiogram (EKG) reading of a heart’s electric activity.  It is also the first heart program in the world to provide a live satellite transmission of an acute heart attack case and the first to show the usefulness of CT scanners in locating coronary blockages.  It has a heart center dedicated to women and the ability to broadcast training courses around the world.

Its databank contains the world’s oldest and largest collection of information about heart-care outcomes and serves as an information resource for many research programs. ACLS Training Center (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) named Duke cardiovascular specialist, Thomas Bashore, MD, one of the 10 most highly regarded heart doctors in the United States.

Three hundred heart specialists comprise Mayo Clinic’s heart program, recognized by U.S. New & World Report as one of America’s top heart hospitals. The program, which treats about 55,000 patients each year for more than 120 heart conditions, is notable for its patient survival rate, its high ratio of cardiac nurses to patients and its advanced technologies.  Its Women’s Heart Clinic is dedicated to lowering  heart disease’s rank as the number one killer of women.

New York-Presbyterian Hospital has performed more heart transplants than any other hospital in the United States. The hospital, which houses three dedicated heart centers, successfully treats some of the highest risk heart cases in the world.  The program is noted for its advanced technology, particularly in cardiac intensive care and transplant services; its nurse to patient ratio; and its patient services such as cardiac rehabilitation and hospice.
