QUESTION: My nail polish is labeled “Big 3 Free.” What does that mean?

ANSWER: Major nail polish manufacturers like Sally Hansen and Revlon have removed three chemicals from their formulas: formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). Some companies have also removed formaldehyde resin and camphor. Check actual ingredient lists (especially at salons, which don’t update stock often) to be sure polish is free of these chemicals, as terms like “green” and “organic” aren’t regulated.
