Lisa Delaney is one of the rare souls who know what it’s like to be an “after.” This journalist and author of Secrets of a Former Fat Girl shed 70 pounds—and six dress sizes–and has kept it off for 20 years. She answers your questions here each week.

DEAR FORMER FAT GIRL: I’m so proud of myself—I went to the local Goodwill and got a treadmill and one of those bike things—they work great. The problem is that “the girls” keep bouncing up and down, making my workout REALLY uncomfortable. I’ve tried every bra I can fit into. What can I do—short of surgery—to keep my chest under control?—Melissa

DEAR MELISSA: Great for you that you’re investing in fitness equipment–at a bargain, no less! But I know it’s frustrating—and painful—to navigate an ample chest when you’re trying to exercise. Not that I have personal experience with this—to tell you the truth, I’m pretty much flat as a board, an A-minus when it comes to cup size. But over the years, I’ve met many women with your issue, some of whom have actually had surgical breast reductions to make life easier.

One of my most-trusted sources is Health magazine fitness editor Su Reid-St. John, who has exhaustively researched the issue. I don’t think she’ll mind my telling you that she DOES have personal experience with “the girls gone wild” problem. She’s the one who turned me on to the whimsically named Last Resort Bra, a bestseller on Titlenine.com. One of its great features is a zipper front, so you can get in and out much easier than styles you have to pull on over your head or even ones that have a back clasp. The great thing about Titlenine.com is that they have live chat capability so you can get down and dirty with their customer service reps if you have questions.

Su also recommends Moving Comfort’s new Luna bra in this post on Health.com. Moving Comfort has a virtual Sports Bra Fitting Room, with fit tips, troubleshooting strategies and a finder that recommends styles based on your size, sport and style preferences.

Both Moving Comfort and Title Nine are leaders in developing women’s fitness apparel—it’s hard to match their quality and customer service. Hoping you can find the right solution to make your workouts bounce-free!
