Think an all-out ban on sweets is the best way to curb your cravings? Think again. According to a recent study, experiencing repeated temptations may make it easier for you to resist treats in the future.

The researchers put college students through three tests and found that when the students were offered a bowl of candy (rather than pictures or smells of the treats), they were better able to resist snacking when the candy was presented a second time.

The bottom line: Being enticed repeatedly builds your willpower like strength-training builds your muscles, helping to keep you from overindulging in the future.
