The beach itself is a treasure, but the beach with man’s best friend is even better. We scouted the coast for the most fun, most dog-friendly beaches out there. Here’s what we discovered. Now tell us your favorite beaches for your pup!

Double Bluff Beach, Whidbey Island, Wash. Two miles of sandy beach and amazing mountain views (you can see Mount Rainier, the North Cascades, and the Olympic range), the Seattle skyline, jagged bluffs, and even migrating gray whales, will not only woo your pup, but your sensibilities, too. After a wet and sandy off-leash romp, stop by The Healthy Pet in nearby Freeland, for a self-serve dog wash and a treat.

Manzanita Beach, Ore. With dog-friendly lodging (try the Coast Cabins), a doggy boutique (Four Paws on the Beach), and several Fido-friendly outdoor dining options, Manzanita is nothing short of a canine’s paradise. Located just a skip from famous Cannon Beach, the town even has an annual dog show called Muttzanita.

Dog Beach, Ocean Beach, Calif. Located where the San Diego River meets the Pacific Ocean, Dog Beach is 38 acres of sand where Rover rules. No leash law means maximum fun and frolicking, as well a super-wet and sandy time. Swing by the Dog Beach Dog Wash to give your fur baby a much-needed scrub when playtime is over.

Cape San Blas, Fla. Known for its oysters and white sand, Cape San Blas is also a haven for hounds. And the beach isn’t the only place to play. Take a walk on the Port City Trail across the bay in historic Port St. Joe or on the BayWalk Trail, which meanders from the Marina and boasts beautiful views of St. Joseph Bay.

The Golden Isles, Ga. Made up of several islands including St. Simons, Sea, Jekyll and Little St. Simons, the Golden Isles are as enticing for humans and dogs as they sound. By law, 65 percent of Jekyll Island must remain undeveloped, so even during the busiest times, the beach feels like it’s just you and your furry best friend.

Kiawah Island, S.C. Though mostly known for its golf course, Kiawah is quite the pet-friendly destination. With more than 10 miles of beach and many more walking trails, your pup is sure to thrive. This helpful map spells out when and where on the beach dogs are allowed.
