The media world was floored last month when Tom Brokaw—the venerated NBC News Correspondent and one of the most trusted figures in broadcast journalism—revealed his almost year-long battle with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow.

But Brokaw remains hopeful about his prognosis and delivered the distressing news in a positive way. “I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come,” said the 73-year-old news anchor in a statement.
