Fried Apple Pies (Kind Of)

  • Yield: 8 to 10 servings

Ingredients

3large apples, peeled, cored and chopped into medium pieces (gala, fuji, Granny Smith or a combination)
1cup water, apple juice or cranberry juice
1/2cup granulated sugar or Florida Crystals
1teaspoon ground cinnamon
pinch nutmeg
1tablespoon unsalted butter
1-- (10-ounce) can flaky biscuit dough, separated into individual biscuits

2tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Place apples in a medium saucepan with water, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes, uncovered, mashing occasionally with a fork until thickened and tender. Cool, add butter and use a fork to mash until chunky.
  2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. On a floured surface, roll each biscuit into a 5-inch circle. Place about 2 tablespoons apple mixture over half of each circle.
  3. Seal each pie by moistening your finger with water and moistening edge of dough, fold half the dough over filling and then tamp down firmly on seam with a floured fork until sealed.
  4. Place pies on a baking sheet, brush with honey and bake 20 minutes until golden.
