Good news for vegetable-loving allergy sufferers: A compound called sulforaphane in broccoli sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables may ease the inflammation that leads to asthma and seasonal allergies.
UCLA scientists noticed a significant increase in air-pollution-blocking antioxidants in people who ate broccoli sprouts compared to those who munched on alfalfa sprouts, which don’t contain the compound.
Shop for broccoli sprouts at grocery stores like Fresh Market, or go for more familiar cruciferous veggies like kale and cauliflower (researchers say eating those regularly could also lead to allergy-blocking benefits).
