Spooky 5K runs are taking over the nation this October to remind us that running should never be a bore. From ghastly zombie runs to light-hearted and pet-friendly runs, we feature the most scream-worthy dashes across the nation.
The Annual Devil’s Chase 6.66 Miler is located in the Halloween capital of the world: Salem, Massachusetts. Show off your most devilish costume to win beer, wine and other goodies. Zombie dancers will perform in a reenactment of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” post-run, and fashionable zombies will take the stage in the Zombie Couture Fashion Show.

This 5K run and 1-mile walk benefits local charity Generation Vegas. This spooky-themed fun run works like this: each runner must wear a flag football-style belt. If you finish the run with remaining flags, you finish “alive.” If the zombies take all of your flags, then you become “undead.”
The Windy City’s fan-favorite Monster Dash is either a 5K, 10K or half marathon. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite outlandish Halloween costumes for the duration of the run, from ghoulish monsters to light-hearted clowns. Live music is spread throughout the half marathon course to cheer the runners on.
Test your speed, strength and endurance through miles of man-made and natural obstacles—all while being chased by hungry, merciless zombies. And it’s for a good cause, too: All proceeds from the Zombie Run go towards the Kennedy Krieger Institute for the treatment of brain injuries and disorders. Find a location near you!
