I had been heavy all my life, yo-yoing up and down in weight over the years. My peak weight was 267 lbs. In 2002, my son was married and after I saw myself in his wedding pictures, I knew something needed to be done. I also was having a lot of health issues and had been diagnosed with diabetes. My doctor had put me on insulin, which devastated me because I thought I would have to be on it for the rest of my life.
My aunt had joined Weight Watchers and lost weight so my mom and I joined. It took me two years to get down to my current weight of 159 lbs. I still follow the Weight Watchers point system and go in once a month to weigh in at their meetings. I also walk every day to keep the weight off—2 miles a day Monday through Friday and 4 miles per day on the weekends. I listen to audible books on my iPod to give me incentive to walk every day so I can find out what happens next in the story.
I no longer have to take insulin and my doctor says my numbers are so good I am in non-diabetic ranges. He tells his other patients about me to inspire them.
