Calorie Swaps for Sweet Tooths

Have your cake and eat it, too — literally. No need to totally deny your sweet tooth to lose weight. But trimming calories even on treats can get you closer to your goal. (Saving a mere 100 calories a day can add up to a weight loss of 10 pounds over one year!) Try these ideas:

  • Take a middle piece of sheet cake rather than a corner piece—you'll get less icing. Calories saved: 100
  • Choose a yeast doughnut (the puffy kind) rather than a cake doughnut. Calories saved: 90
  • Get a scoop of ice cream sans cone. Calories saved: 81
  • Say yes to pie! Just eat the filling and leave the crust. Calories saved: 100
