The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet, recently named “best overall diet” by U.S. News and World Report, is a great diet for diabetes and heart health, joining the ranks of Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and the Raw Food Diet, which also ranked high. The Mayo Clinic suggests that the DASH Diet can help you control your blood pressure, as it is a diet rich in grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products while limiting total fats, saturated fat, and cholesterol. The diet also calls for plenty of fiber, potassium, calcium and magnesium while limiting sodium to between 1,500 and 2,300 mg per day.
