Reducing everyday balsamic vinegar with a little sugar and some spices transforms it into a rich, luxurious syrup with all the flavor of expensive aged balsamic vinegar. Serve on everything from salad greens and pasta to ice cream and berries.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2cups balsamic vinegar
- 1/2cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2-- star anise
- 2sticks cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Simmer until reduced by one-third. Cool. Makes about 1 cup.
