Balsamic Strawberries with Ice Cream

1pint fresh strawberries, rinsed, hulled and halved
1tablespoon sugar
1tablespoon good-quality balsamic vinegar
-- Fresh-ground black pepper, to taste
4-- (1/2-cup) scoops vanilla-bean ice cream


  1. Combine the berries, sugar, vinegar and pepper in a nonreactive bowl and chill 30 minutes. Serve over ice cream.
