Casual Sandals Your Feet Will Love!

You’ve hidden your toes away all winter, but now the sun’s out and it’s finally sandal time. Kick off those boots and slip into one of these new spring/summer silhouettes ... all of which offer support and comfort along with laidback style.

Dr. Andrew Weil Integrative Footwear “Spirit”

$89.95; www.weilbeing.com These sandals passed the spring break test: They were supportive enough for a day of sight-seeing, but offered enough style to pair with a sundress for night. The padded, contoured footbed is not only comfortable, but helps keep the foot and leg in proper alignment to prevent injury over the long-term. They’re available in black, brown and a chic snakeskin print.

Naot “Valerie”

$156; www.naot.com One tester who has a high arch and frequently has trouble finding sandals with appropriate support raved about the construction and comfort of these shoes. They cradled the arch of her foot perfectly and needed no breaking in (though she did recommend sizing up). The chain embellishments don’t rub (an impressive feat!) and combined with metallic leather make these dressy enough for an evening out.

Propet “Daffodil”

$69.95; propetusa.com Talk about substance: These thong-type sandals have it in spades. Ample arches, secure (and adjustable) toe straps and slight platform soles make these perfect for a day of sightseeing and shopping. More appropriate for weekend and off-hours wear than work or date-night, as their profile is a bit too clunky for our taste.

Birkenstock “Gizeh”

$79.95; www.birkenstockusa.com If you’ve been reluctant to trade in your bright flip-flops even though you know they’re no good for your feet, these are a more-than-adequate substitute. The footbed contours to the size and shape of your foot, and the arch support is substantial. Bonus: They come in tons of fun colors, and a leather version is available for $120.

Mephisto “Abigael”

$199; www.mephistoshoes.com You’d never know these shoes are designed first and foremost for orthopedic health ... from the slim sole to the flower detail, they’re cute and not overly constructed. The flat-shaped thong slides comfortably between toes, and the suede footbed feels soft on skin and offers pillow-like support for your arches. This particular style doesn’t come in half sizes, and it runs small, so you may need to try on in person.

KEEN Emerald City Toe Wrap

$85; www.keenfootwear.com A wide strap and toe wrap in supple leather make for an appealingly minimalist design in this workhorse sandal. The larger strap has an elastic inset that helps accommodate a variety of foot widths and shapes. The sole is adorned with a raised flower design that’s functional (helping prevent slip) as well as a charming detail.

Chaco Indigen EcoTread

$90; www.chacos.com With straps that crisscross the widest part of the foot, these felt a tad too snug in our normal size (a complaint that is echoed in some online reviews). But given that they’re made of leather, they are likely to stretch with wear. In all other areas (toe wrap, arch support and sturdy soles) these sandals performed in exemplary fashion. They come in four earth tone colors and a wild-card aqua blue.

Patagonia Bandha Sling

$100; www.patagonia.com Do you seize every chance to be barefoot in the spring and summer months? If so, you may find the barely there feel of these thong sandals appealing. But though they feel slight, they’re very supportive, with additional padding in the forefoot area and a raised, cushioned heel. The ankle strap offers a hint more structure but this is still a sandal that’s easy to slip on and off.
