Go Green and Get Healthy

Protecting the environment and looking out for your health don't have to be mutually exclusive. Here, three easy ways you can do both:
  • Slim down. According to a recent study, additional food production and the extra fuel needed to transport heavier folks pollutes the air more than feeding and moving thinner people.
  • Cut down on beef and cheese. Raising cows generates more global warming greenhouse gases, as measured in CO2 equivalent, than transportation, according to a 2006 report from the United Nations. Eat less meat by using it top a salad instead of eating it as your main course.
  • Shop locally by season. Fruits and veggies are at their nutritional peak when they're in season, and buying produce grown nearby cuts down on transportation pollution. Plus, local food often comes from small farms that may rely less on pesticides-another bonus for your health and the earth.
