“My grandmother, since as long as I can remember, has had heart problems. So this is very dear to me and I think it’s just a wakeup call to everybody. We cannot hide the reality. This is what’s going on, but what can we do about it? That’s what we’re trying to covey. It’s let’s determine the problem and what can we do to solve it.”

Celebrities Rally for Healthy Hearts
Red is a universally flattering color, and a healthy heart is universally important for a healthy life. That’s the idea behind the Red Dress fashion show, put on by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s Heart Truth campaign to draw attention to the fact that heart disease is the number-one killer of women. Last Tuesday’s event marked the 10th anniversary of the show, where celebrities like Christie Brinkley, Rebecca Romijn and Gloria Estefan strutted down the runway in Donna Karen, Oscar de la Renta and other designers in the name of healthy hearts. We asked several celebs about their heart-healthy habits and their dedication to the cause.

“My mom had a heart attack, my stepfather had a heart attack. My parents were really not exercisers and ate really poorly. So I’m here to spread the word and stop people from smoking. I'm an advocate for no smoking. I don't fix up daters who smoke. There’s no reason we need to smoke.”

“Women are caretakers. They take care of everybody and they don’t always take care of themselves. And sometimes we don’t know the information that would help us change our life, and today maybe somebody will watch because they like the fashion, they like the people or they like the excitement of it, and they’ll learn something that can truly make a difference in their life. I mean that’s a good night, that’s a really good night.”
